Free Underground Techno, D&B and Hip Hop: Free Music Archive and Bandcamp Free Releases
Ad
Want new underground music without paying – and without dodgy sites? These two platforms are where artists choose to give it away.
Free Music Archive (FMA)
FMA is a long-running library of legal, free audio, with most tracks under Creative Commons licences. Browse genres like Techno, Electronic, Hip-Hop and Experimental.
- Each track lists its licence (e.g. CC BY, CC BY-NC, CC BY-NC-ND).
- CC BY means you can reuse it, even commercially, with credit. NC = non-commercial only. ND = no edits/remixes.
- Great for finding music for videos, podcasts or DJ mixes with clear permissions.

Bandcamp free and name-your-price
On Bandcamp, artists can set a release to free or name your price (enter £0 or chip in). These are fully artist-authorised downloads.
- Search the tag “free download” and combine with genres: techno, minimal, drum and bass, jungle, boom bap, lo-fi hip hop, psytrance.
- Downloads are for personal listening – it isn’t a licence to sample or reupload.
- If you enjoy it, pay something or buy merch. Bandcamp is one of the best ways to put money straight into artists’ pockets.
